Felix Huettenbach: The Co-Founder Behind Sameday Health's COVID-19 Testing Network

Felix Huettenbach is a German-born entrepreneur and investor who, as co-founder and CEO, built Sameday Health, a COVID-19 testing company that grew from a single site in Venice, Los Angeles, into a national network during the pandemic. Born on 31 August 1993 in Germany, he describes himself as a founder, investor, adventurer and YouTuber based in Dubai.

Key facts at a glance

  • Residence: Dubai, United Arab Emirates
  • Best known for: co-founding Sameday Health in September 2020 and leading it as CEO
  • Scale reached: 55 US locations and more than 1,000 employees by April 2022
  • Current focus: co-founder and partner at Terranum, a renewable-powered data center developer, plus angel investing

An engineer-economist by training

Huettenbach studied Technology and Management at the Technical University of Munich between 2012 and 2016, a B.A.Sc. program that combines mechanical engineering with business administration. He spent a term at the University of California, Berkeley in 2015 and later joined MIT as an International Scholar in a graduate program in entrepreneurial studies from 2017 to 2018. The MIT thread resurfaced later: according to the company, Sameday Health's booking and results platform was custom-built by four MIT software engineers.

His entrepreneurial record predates the degree. After moving to Munich at 18, he started an event production company that, by his own account, paid for his studies; he says he later moved it to Los Angeles and sold his stake. After graduation he joined the investment team at Aurelius Equity Opportunities in Munich, where he worked on market entry analysis and financial models. He founded W8X, a fitness-technology company, in 2017, and served as a Guest Lecturer and Global Entrepreneur in Residence at the University of Massachusetts Boston from 2018 to 2020.

From Quantgene to a public COVID-19 testing network

The step that led to Sameday Health came through Quantgene, a company that uses machine learning to detect cancers early from standard blood samples. Huettenbach was its Chief of Staff. When the pandemic began, he set up a unit inside Quantgene that offered COVID-19 testing to companies.

That corporate service addressed employers, but the general public also needed fast results. In September 2020 he co-founded Sameday Health with Max Oscar Oehme, who became COO, starting with one testing site in Venice, Los Angeles, under the original name Sameday Testing. The model was straightforward: walk-in sites offering PCR and rapid tests, appointments booked online, and results delivered digitally.

Sameday Health's growth at pandemic speed

Under Huettenbach as CEO, the company quickly outgrew its first location. By April 2022, Sameday Health operated 55 locations across the United States, 16 of them in Los Angeles County, and employed more than 1,000 people; the company itself put the figure at 1,200. Huettenbach has since summarised the hiring push as "1,000 employees in 100 days".

Beyond testing: vaccines, house calls and virtual care

The rollout gathered pace within months. In December 2020, with Huettenbach leading it as CEO, the company announced 30 new testing facilities in 11 states by year-end, including flagship sites in five Westfield shopping centers, from Westfield Old Orchard in Skokie, Illinois, to The Village at Westfield Topanga in Woodland Hills, California. In March 2021 the business adopted its parent brand and began administering vaccines at a drive-through site at Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. Announcing that step, Huettenbach said "we are committed to providing accessible care".

During his time as CEO the offer kept widening. In November 2021 the company launched House Calls through its app, sending nurses to homes, hotels and offices for tests, STD screening, IV drip therapy and wellness services. By his own account, Huettenbach is passionate about making healthcare more affordable, transparent and approachable, and House Calls was pitched as a cheaper alternative to the traditional house call, long a service for wealthy clients. By then, according to the company, it had performed more than 1.5 million tests and administered over 50,000 vaccines. Virtual urgent care consultations followed in 2022 in select states.

Handing over the CEO role

In early 2023, Huettenbach and the management team decided that a physician should lead Sameday Health so the business could broaden its medical services. He stepped back that year.

What came next

After stepping back from Sameday Health, Huettenbach turned to investing and infrastructure. He is a co-founder and partner at Terranum, a digital infrastructure company registered as Terranum Capital FZCO in the IFZA Business Park in Dubai. Terranum develops data center campuses powered by renewable energy. In March 2026 he and Terranum's Victor Decalf visited Prieska in South Africa's Northern Cape with the Prieska Power Reserve team to meet the mayor and senior officials about preliminary approval for a planned 100 MW, fully off-grid campus.

He argues that running Sameday Health, with its many physical sites, approval processes and need for near-zero downtime, prepared him for that kind of work. As an angel investor he backs founder-led companies, and when asked what he looks for in founders his answer is short: "Ownership mindset is the first signal."

Beyond business

Outside work, Huettenbach publishes a video series that includes earning a skydiving license in 10 days with Jay Alvarrez, attempting to become a pilot in 30 days and building an art car for AfrikaBurn. He says he has sought out environments where he was far from the best since childhood, and he is still chasing a childhood goal of surfing a barrel wave.

For anyone researching Felix Huettenbach, the throughline is consistent: a founder who moved fast with Sameday Health during COVID-19, built a large physical operation in a short time, and has since applied that operating experience to infrastructure and investing.
